Let go and let God – 2

As children their broken toys, with tears for us to mend, I brought my broken dreams to God because He is my friend. But then instead of leaving him in peace to work alone, I hung around and tried to help, with ways that were my own. At last, I snatched them back again and cried, “How can you be so slow?”. “My child”, He said, “what could I do? You never did let go”.

Faith In God Is More Than An Insurance Policy

Redbird's Roost

It is not enough to know things about God. It is important that we declare to people all around us that they must come to know God Himself.
Our faith in God is more than the provision of an eternal life insurance policy. Some Christians in their testimonies seem to view God as a lifeboat always coming to their rescue. Or perhaps they portray Him as a kind of ladder enabling them to get out of a burning building.
We dare not miss the point here. Our God takes pleasure in His believing children coming to Him with genuine faith, knowing that He is the rewarder of all who diligently seek Him. . .
Faith in God is to be demonstrated, not defined. Just as God’s church demonstrates Christian love, the demonstration of godly, humble faith is God’s ideal for His church. . . God wants His people, including the…

He Took My Breath Away…

The Fickle Heartbeat

he took my breath away

Shared by Ufuoma E-Ashogbon.

I remember the day I met Kevin, like it was yesterday.  Something about him was so paralysing, I couldn’t help but stare!  Yes, he was gorgeous, but more than that, he oozed charisma.  He smiled at me, as he noticed my intense gaze, and I gasped.  He took my breath away!

After that first encounter, I was mesmerised.  He obviously knew I was attracted to him.  What I couldn’t believe was how he too seemed attracted to me!  I don’t know why…he seemed so far out of my league with his athletic build, and striking features.  It took everything in me to look away and think of something other than his full pink lips.

I met Kevin about a month later at a mutual friend’s 30th birthday bash. As before, he was breathtaking. ALL the ladies were looking at him, and many of the…

You won’t stumble

The Word of God has answers to questions we ask about life. The word speaks of direction, healing, joy, peace, protection and elevation. No matter what situation you may be facing today, you can still live in peace and victory and find your answer by studying God’s Word and applying it in your life.

Ps 119:165 says that the people who love God’s Word have great peace. How do you love God’s Word? By studying it, meditating on it and obeying His commands. But it doesn’t end there. It speaks about stumbling and falling. The word will direct your heart and decisions you take will be Godly and not such that you will afraid of what will happen because you are in the right. You can choose to walk in the fullness of His blessing as an outcome of studying His word which is when you will see His promises fulfilled in your life.

When you hold God’s Word in your heart, there is nothing that can take it away from you. There is nothing that can make you stumble and fall. His Word is complete protection from offense, from worry, from bitterness, from fear, for hatred and jealousy. His word is life. His Word is truth that sets you free and gives you His total peace. Love His Word and see how God takes you over stumbling blocks.

Happy Birthday Dad

In Deut 5:33, Scripture says you will live long and prosper. I have been contemplating on the text in the past few days because today, my father turns 85 and is still strong. All through life, the enemy tries to stop us. He tries to make sure we don’t live long and prosper. He sets in yokes of bondage and depression, a yokes of low self-esteem, and terminal illness, and a lot more. He’ll try to burden you down so that everything is a struggle and in the end you give up. You may be working hard, but you can’t get ahead because you have all these yokes controlling you.

Maybe you’ve been living with a yoke your whole life. It’s been passed down to you. Maybe you don’t realize it. You can’t seem to get ahead. You are struggling in your marriage, your children refusing to do the right thing. But God said to the Israelites, “I you walk in obedience to my commands, you will be happy, live long and prosper. God sees every yoke, every unfair situation, everything that you struggle with and promises to get you back on track with just a token of obedience. I am going to put an end to that struggle. I am shifting things in your Favour. I will deliver you from addictions that could cut short your life. I will remove burdens that will send you to an early grave.

Do all your work in love

Let us keep the ball rolling for our love talk series (previous posts: Revisiting the Two Greatest Commandments | Who is my neighbor | How then should you love your neighbor?).  But before anything else, let me thank you first for offering prayers for the Philippines as I brought up last week some of the current trials we are facing (Request for Prayers for the Philippines).  God is sovereign.

Today, let us take a look at how apostle Paul sees this four-letter word, and flesh out from it the practical side of sharing love.

If you have watched A Walk to Remember, I am sure you are quite familiar with the most commonly quoted love passage: 1 Corinthians 13:4-7.  But now, I encourage you to step a lil backward and listen to what Paul says in the first 3 verses:

13 I may be able to speak the languages of…

Like Moses who had a staff, so too has God has equipped you with everything you need to fulfill your destiny through His Word. (2 Tim 3:16-17). The Scripture tells us that as believers in Jesus Christ, we are anointed. The word “anointing” is the power of God which gives you courage, strength and ability. When you put the Word of God in you, you are receiving that anointing, you are building your faith, and you are being equipped for every good work.

The next time you start to wonder if you have what it takes, go to God’s Word and stir up your faith. Focus on His truth which says you are well able to do what He has called you to do. You can accomplish your goals. You have the ideas, the creativity, and talent to be successful. You can overcome every obstacle. You have been armed with strength for every battle; light for every darkness, beauty for ashes and a garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. The forces that are with you are greater than the forces that are against you. Know today; you are well equipped.

I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread. Psalm 37:25 (NIV)

The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup;you hold my lot. The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance. Psalm 16:5-6 (ESV)
